The University at Albany Student Association is a diverse and dynamic body, structured to effectively manage, represent, and serve the student community.

Comprised of various branches, each with its unique responsibilities, the Student Association ensures a balanced and comprehensive approach to student governance and activities. From overseeing day-to-day operations and managing a multi-million dollar budget to representing student interests and ensuring adherence to governing documents, each branch plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and well-managed student community.

The Executive Branch, Student Senate, Supreme Court, Office of the Comptroller, Elections Commission, and Board of Finance collectively work to uphold the interests, rights, and welfare of the student body, making the Student Association an integral part of campus life at the University at Albany.

The Branches

The Executive Branch is the driving force behind the day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives of the University at Albany Student Association. Led by a team of dedicated individuals, this branch is responsible for executing the policies and decisions made by the Student Association. Members of the Executive Branch work tirelessly to ensure that student needs and interests are addressed effectively. They maintain regular office hours in the SA Office, providing an accessible point of contact for students. This branch serves as the cornerstone of student governance, translating student voices into meaningful action and enhancing the overall student experience at the University at Albany.

The Legislative Branch of the University at Albany Student Association embodies the student voice, playing a pivotal role in shaping campus life and policy. Comprising of the Student Association Senate, this branch is made up of elected representatives from various living areas and at-large members chosen by the entire student body. These dedicated senators are tasked with creating, debating, and passing legislation that addresses the concerns and needs of their fellow students. They serve as a vital link between the student body and the university administration, advocating for student interests and ensuring that their voices are heard and acted upon. The Judicial Branch is a critical pillar of the University at Albany Student Association, ensuring fairness and adherence to the Association’s Constitution and By-Laws. Comprised of the SA Supreme Court, this branch is formed by students appointed by the President and confirmed by the Student Association Senate. The Court stands as the ultimate authority on disputes within the scope of the Student Association, providing a fair and unbiased forum for resolving conflicts. Whether it's interpreting the Constitution, reviewing decisions of other branches, or hearing appeals from students, the SA Supreme Court maintains the integrity and proper functioning of the Student Association. Its role is essential in upholding the principles of justice and democracy within the university community.

The Office of the Comptroller (SAOC) is a vital component of the University at Albany Student Association, entrusted with the responsible management of the Association's financial resources. Led by the Comptroller, this office oversees the meticulous handling of an approximate $3 million budget, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial matters. The Comptroller acts as the chief custodian of the Student Association's assets, playing a pivotal role in budget allocation, financial planning, and overseeing monetary transactions. This office is fundamental in supporting the various activities and initiatives of the Student Association, providing a stable financial foundation that enables effective student governance and enriches campus life for all.

The Board of Finance is an integral segment of the University at Albany Student Association, charged with the critical task of overseeing the fiscal health and responsibility of the organization. Comprising seven astute students, three appointed by the President of the Student Association and four by the Chair of the Student Association Senate, the Board operates with a keen focus on the efficient and equitable allocation of resources. They meticulously review and approve budgets, ensuring that funds are utilized in ways that best serve the student body and support the diverse range of activities and programs offered by the Student Association. The Board of Finance is essential in maintaining financial integrity and prudence, thereby facilitating a thriving and dynamic campus community.

The Elections Commission is the body of the Student Association responsible for ensuring free and fair elections within all branches and recognized student organizations. An appointed body of 5 students, who elect a Chair and Vice Chair, investigate all potential violations of the Elections Guidelines and Policy and levying sanctions as appropriate.
